Garage Door Repair in Akron, OH

Akron is built on hills, and the way water runs down those hills is the thing that quietly ruins garage doors here.

Everything runs downhill, and it freezes where it stops

Akron driveways slope. That is fine in July and a real problem in January, because meltwater running down the drive stops exactly where the door meets the slab and freezes there overnight. Doors on sloped drives freeze down more often than doors on flat ones, and they do it repeatedly through the season.

The second consequence of the grade is the threshold itself. Water pooling at the bottom of the opening works into the concrete, freezes, and lifts the slab edge over the years until the door no longer seals against it, which lets more water in and the cycle accelerates.

Older housing, and a lot of it

Much of Akron and the surrounding towns is early twentieth century, with single-car garages and openings that predate any modern standard. Replacements here are as often about rebuilding what the door bolts to as about the door itself.

Common questions

Straight answers

My driveway slopes toward the garage. Can anything be done?

Yes. A new bottom seal sized to the actual gap, and in some cases a threshold seal bonded to the slab, will keep most of the water out. It will not change the grade, but it stops the door freezing down.

The concrete at the door has lifted. Does that stop you installing?

Not usually. We can often work with an uneven slab using a taller or shaped bottom seal. If it has moved badly enough to bind the door, that becomes a concrete job before it is a door job, and we will tell you that plainly.

Do you cover Cuyahoga Falls and Stow?

Yes, and the towns around them. Akron is one of the metros our crews are based in.
